EDCM welcomes money for places to go for young people
EDCM welcomes the launch today, (03 April) of myplace - a multi million pound government programme to deliver world class places for young people to go.
This programme, launched by Beverley Hughes, Minister for Children, Young People and Families, will support the Children's Plan pledge to provide exciting and safe places for all young people to go, and where young people can engage in a wide range of positive activities such as sport, dance and music. The announcement comes alongside the launch of a national play strategy.
Young people have a crucial part to play in the allocation of funding as projects must demonstrate evidence of real participation from young people in their design and development.
Beverley Hughes, Minister for Children, Young People and Families, said:
"All across the country young people are calling for more great places to go where they have new and interesting things to do...
"We've put the money in place now Local Authorities must act and work with young people to make the most of this fantastic opportunity. That is why today's announcement is so important not only for young people but for everyone in the community.”
Steve Broach, EDCM Campaign Manager said:
“EDCM are delighted that the Government are providing money for young people to have more places to go and things to do. This was the number one priority for disabled young people through our If I could change one thing… report. We now need to make sure disabled young people get involved so the money gets spent on places and projects they can access and enjoy. With our Council for Disabled Children colleagues, we will be working with groups of disabled young people over the coming months to make this happen.”
