End the NHS funding fog for disabled children!
Take action to get government to specify the health funding available for disabled children’s services in England - email your MP now!
EDCM and our partners ACT, Children’s Hospices UK and Whizz-Kidz have been campaigning to get more health funding spent on services for disabled children. A letter was sent to all PCTs and Local Authorities in December 2007 which set out the funding for disabled children’s services and confirmed that PCTs have additional baseline funding.
However, the findings of EDCM’s survey in June 2008 showed that not one PCT in England could quantify their spend on services for disabled children. This is despite disabled children being a priority in the NHS Operating Framework (see p23 of the download on the page)
This is partly because PCTs have not been told how much new funding is available - unlike local authorities, who all have ringfenced funding to spend on short breaks, and some of whom now have ringfenced childcare funding as well.
EDCM wants all our supporters to take action by emailing your MP and asking them to:
1) Write to Alan Johnson (Health Secretary) and Ed Balls (Children’s Secretary), asking them to announce the national health funding in the much-delayed Child Health Strategy due by the end of 2008.
2) Write to the local PCT Chair asking them to confirm that disabled children will be a local priority and whether they will specify local health funding.
