Get your MP to support the short breaks Bill!

We need your help to get MPs to support the Disabled Children (Family Support) Bill:

1. Please email your MP as soon as possible and ask for their support through our online action.

2. As well as emailing your MP, if you feel particularly strongly about short breaks, please contact your MP's office and request a meeting with your MP. We have produced some guidance for supporters to help you to organise this.

This is particularly helpful if you have already emailed your MP and received a reply. At this meeting, you could talk about the situation with short breaks in your local area, and explain why you feel that families should have a right to short breaks.

Supporters who live in London, or are able to travel to London, could ask for the meeting to take place at Parliament. If your MP is able to come to the debate on Friday 23 February, and you are able to meet on that date, it would be ideal to ask for the meeting then - as this increases the chances that they will attend the debate. However, it is just as helpful for the meeting to happen in your consituency, perhaps as part of one of the regular surgeries that all MP's run.

To get the contact details for your MP's office, go to http://www.upmystreet.com/commons/l/ and enter your postcode. This brings up contact details for your MP. To contact the constituency office, go to your MP's website where you will find the phone number. Alternatively, you can contact their parliamentary office by calling the House of Commons switchboard on 020 7219 3000 and asking for your MP by name.

Please see our guidance for supporters if you would like any help with arranging to meet your MP. If you do arrange to meet your MP, please let us know by email before the meeting that it will be taking place, and we will send you a briefing.

3. To encourage more people to email their MP, it would be very helpful if supporters could post the link to our online action, or the link to this page, to any newsgroups or parent forums you are involved in. The link to the action is at:

Many thanks in advance to all those who are getting their MPs to support this Bill.
