EDCM wants to see all disabled children get the health services they need

Health and Social Care Bill

HealthcareDisabled children and young people are disproportionate users of health services and often use a wide range of different services provided by the NHS.

However, disabled children, young people and their families currently experience significant barriers to accessing health services.

'Disabled Children and Health Reform: Questions, challenges and opportunities'
, a report launched in October 2011 by EDCM and The Children's Trust, Tadworth, demonstrates that families with disabled children actually experience the following:

•    Poorly coordinated appointments
•    Poor communication across the system
•    Delays to accessing specialist services and equipment
•    Disputes between agencies about funding for services
•    A confusing transition to adult services

Find out how EDCM is campaigning to make sure the current Health and Social Care Bill meet the needs of disabled children and young people.

The EDCM and Mumsnet nappies campaign

MumsnetIn April 2010, David Cameron visited Riven Vincent, a regular poster to Mumsnet, to discuss her concerns about restrictions placed on the number of nappies she received for her disabled child. At this meeting, David Cameron made a commitment that his Government would act to tackle NHS restrictions.

EDCM supporters and Mumsnet readers wrote to the Prime Minister, to ask him what he would do to make sure his commitment was fulfilled.
