EDCM believes the reformed health and care system must address long-standing problems which leave too many families of disabled children and young people struggling to have their needs met. Health and Wellbeing Boards are important new bodies that play a key stratgeic role in the new health and care system. EDCM have developed a Disabled Children's Charter for Health and Wellbeing Boards to support them to meet the needs of disabled children, young people and their families. Email your Health and Wellbeing Board Chair and urge them to sign the Disabled Children's Charter for Health and Wellbeing Boards. Find out more about the Disabled Children's Charter for Health and Wellbeing Boards.
The Welfare Reform Act creates a 'disability addition' payment to families with disabled children within the Universal Credit. This replicates a payment within the Child Tax Credit system however, the proposed amounts will mean a £1400 per year cut for up to 63% of disabled children born after 2013. Find out more here. Click here to email your MP and ask them to join us in calling on Lord Freud, Minister for Welfare Reform, to undertake his 2015 review of the 'disability addition' policy now.
