Parties promise extra support for childcare in next Parliament
Expanding childcare and mental health provision emerge as key issues for families with disabled children in party manifestos
28th April 2015
Last week, the UK political parties released their manifestos setting out their proposals for Government following May’s General Election.
Each party’s manifesto has promised improved access to childcare for families through expanding early education, as well as increased priority for mental health, with greater availability to psychological therapies. Despite these commitments, little reference has been made to how these policies will target families with disabled children.
Debbie Smith, EDCM Campaign Manager says “We will soon know the final outcome of the General Election, Every Disabled Child Matters will continue to fight for rights and justice for disabled children and their families. It is essential that the next Government considers the specific needs of disabled children and their families’ right from the start, to ensure that disabled children benefit from these policies and enjoy equal rights to early education and health.”
