Children and young people
NCB’s vision is a society in which all
children and young people are valued, their rights respected and
their responsibilities enhanced. As we endeavour to realise this
vision we see it as vital to include children and young people in
all our work , including the running of NCB itself.
Young NCB
Young NCB is a free membership
network open to all children and young people aged 18 and under.
Young NCB encourages young people to get involved in issues that
affect and interest them – such as safety, perceptions of young
people, sex and relationships education, citizenship, bullying,
drugs and the media – or they can just stay in touch via Young
NCB’s website and its magazine, Loudspeaker.
Activities and events that include:
- organising or participating in conferences
and talk shops
- writing for Young NCB’s website and
its magazine,
Loudspeaker
- taking part in the Young NCB advisory
group
- representing young people on NCB's board of
management
- organising or participating in research
projects and consultations

NCB young person development
programme
As part of our working in partnership with
children and young people, we have created a career development
programme which consists of three parts: work experience,
apprenticeships, internships and volunteering. The scheme is
flexible and enables both young people and NCB to learn and benefit
in a practical way but also allows the young people to continue
with their formal educational and or/training.
Governance
Four representatives of
Young NCB sit on our management board. They are involved in key
decision making for the organisation and participate fully in the
work of the board.
Projects
Experts in
participation are positioned throughout NCB departments in order to
ensure children and young people’s participation is at the heart of everything we
do.
We are also a founding partner of
Participation Works,
the online gateway to the world of children and young people's
participation which enhances access to policy practice, networks
and information on participation.
